Southampton City Mission News, September 2024

Southampton City Mission are desperately short of food right now and won't see Harvest donations making an impact until October. Even pasta, rice and cereal are critically low so if you are able to make donations of food, please do, either through your church, direct to us or via one of the many in store drop off points which can be found at https://tinyurl.com/vr97wf8y

If you love a spreadsheet and have financial expertise, we'd love you to consider joining our Board of Trustees. David Wagstaff is standing down as a Trustee at the end of September after nine years of kind, wise, thoughtful and skillful service of having oversight of the Charity's finances.

If you have a financial background, please pray to see if the Lord is inviting you to join our board. Or perhaps someone you know springs to mind that you might suggest have a chat with us? Please get in touch on office@southamptoncitymission.co.uk if you might be interested and would like to find out more.

Speaking of volunteers, we would LOVE to hear from anyone interested in the following opportunities:

Van driver EVENING volunteers

We have a BRAND NEW evening volunteering opportunity: a first for SCM. Many times we are asked by people who are working during the day what they could do to volunteer help. We would like to recruit a small team of van drivers and drivers mates to crew a Monday evening food collection slot. Starting from our base in Millbrook, it would be around 90 mins of work, driving and collecting a large food order from a supermarket and bringing it back to the warehouse.

Clothes Bank Supervisor - at Ascension Church on Wednesdays 9.15am-3.45pm. Could you join our existing Supervisors to help with running the clothes bank whilst it's open? This role would suit a compassionate Christian who enjoys being with people, is able to sort and lift bags of clothes, assist clients, set up/pack down and is comfortable using a computer.

Clothes Bank volunteers - our dedicated team at the clothes bank - Ascension Church, Bitterne Park - would love to have some extra help, especially to set up and pack down the clothes bank each week. This involves moving loaded clothes rails, wheeled cupboards and other items. If you're available on Wednesdays 9am-10am and 2.45pm-3.45pm (and anywhere in between), please get in touch!

Marketplace Stock Assistants - additional team members are needed to help sort, package and store food the day before each Marketplace is open. This is an important behind the scenes role, not involving direct contact with the public. Volunteers are needed between 9am - 11am on Tuesdays at All Saints Church, Millbrook, on Wednesdays at Saint Mary's Church (City Centre) 10am - 12pm and Townhill Park Community Centre 9am - 11am.

Marketplace Welcome Assistants - volunteers are needed to welcome members, chat with them and assist them with their shopping at Millbrook Marketplace on Wednesdays between 9am - 2pm and at Townhill Marketplace on Thursdays between 9am-2pm.

If anyone is interested or would like to find out more they can contact us on  adminteam@southamptoncitymission.co.uk
